Sore Legs

Uh, so I'm paying for the all the walking yesterday. I got out of bed and every muscle in my legs hurt. Clearly I need to start by tkaing one walk, not three. But I am going to keep this because it calms Tallulah down a bit and it givees Michael some time in the house by himself.

Oh and it is Chirstmas Eve! Yippee!

Walking

Tallulah is not that great on a leash. This is totally my fault. She used to be pretty good about it, she would walk with me without much trouble at all, then I stopped going on walks and her leash behavior dropped. I am trying to get back in to the habit for both our sakes.
So today Lulah and I took a long walk, snakeing through the streets of our neighborhood until halfway up the block we walked past a yard with a dog. A dog who was not on a leash, nor in a fence. The dog growled at Tallulah (who immeadiately began cowering behind me) and practically drove us into the street. We crossed the street, I'm shouting "Uh-Uh!" the whole way trying to keep the dog at bay. Then we scurried home.
The plan is now that Tallulah is tired I will be able to work on the mattes that 30min with the Gentle Leader on just made worse. I think that we will just have to keep the hair really short where the collar and GL sit. It is impossible to keep then aat bay any other way.

Attempting to show my prowess as a wife by making ridiculously complicated baked goods.

Really the title pretty much covers it.
I just spent the past 2.5+ hours attempting to make a cranberry upside-down cake from Martha Stewart's Holiday book.
I had to send Michael out to the store for Almond Paste when I was halfway though mixing things up.
The kitchen is emitting smells of burning as the syrup dripped out of the springform pan and onto the bottom of the stove, mingling with the char from the last baking project gone wrong.
Clearly I need to find another way to demonstrate wife-like skills as baking is not looking so good.

UPDATE: I just pulled the cake out of the oven! While the oven (and my kitchen) smells like burning the cake itself looks beautiful. It will chill overnight and tomorrow I will flip it over and see if I do pocess some baking prowess.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I fliped the cake this morning. It is beautiful and the part I had to cut off to it would lay flat on the cake stand it YUMMY! Take that Martha!

Hair Despair

Tallulah had her hair cut and brushed out last week, leaving her extra fluffy and cute. And as an extra bonus I bought her a new collar. Normally our little pup runs around naked (except when we go outside - then she wears a gentle leader), but I thought it was time for her to be collared and properly tagged full time. Unfortunately after a week and a half with the collar the fur around her neck has gotten so heavily matted that no amount of brushing is helping. Her fur is such a strange texture that it mats so quickly. I brush her every night, which is a bit of a struggle, but still the mats around her neck (that were worked out professionally less than two weeks ago) are insane! So the collar has come off again and Tallulah is once again a naked pup!

In other hair news I had my hair cut tonight. After spending the past many, many years growing it out and having the longest hair I had had since I was 7 years old for the wedding, I had it cut to a manageable shoulder length with many layers. It feels so much better! All the spilt ends are gone and it just looks and feels so healthy.

So at least one of the brunettes in this house has manageable hair.

The Pitter-Patter of Little Feet

Don't worry they aren't coming from this house. But I know 4 women who are having babies in 2007 and 2 more through friends. Which means I know 6 babies due before July 2007. This seems like a lot of babies to me. Luckily this gives me an excuse to knit tiny baby clothes. I'm working on the Baby Kimono from Mason-Dixon knitting. I knit 2/3's of one and then decided I hated the yarn and the color pattern it made so I started over using some Rowan Linen that I had in the stash. So far it is looking really good, unfortunately the linen is really a pain to work with. But I have about 3 inches of the back knit up and I hope to get another inch done tonight.
If this works out I only 5 more to go!

Here's the baby planning run-down:
January: Current Project - Purple and yellow (don't worry the colors are really muted and pretty)
Early May: Light Blue-Green and Cream
Late May: Orange and Yellow
Mid-June: Light Blue and Navy Blue

We'll see how it goes. Luckily there is a nice break between this first baby and the other three.

wifedom has made me boring

more boring than I already was.

I really have nothing to write about right now. Michael and I seem to be living in a giant inside joke. We laugh all the time, but really nothing translates.

Sorry about that.

Gearing up for the Holidays!

Today we began our Christmas Shopping. We ran out to the Plaza to pick up more envelopes for our thank-you notes and then decided to do some shopping. We found some good things! But the best part is he way I have decided to wrap things this year. Everyting (within reason) will be wrapped with fabric and yarn! I love how it looks and can't way for everything to be purchased and wrapped under the tree. Until I do the rest of the shopping these four boxes will have to do.

On the "to-do" list tonight is cleaning up work space. I can't do much when I can't even find the desk.

But, really...I'd rather just work on the handbag I'm knitting. Hopefully I'll finish knitting it tonight and after it's finished...then I'll clean the desk!

UPDATE:
Uh, so I didn't clean off my desk OR finish knitting the handbag. Instead I started on my knitting tutorial for the class I am teaching on Tuesday. This week I am showing 5 women from my office how to knit and I am super excited about it. Hopefully it will go well.

I can't sleep

Yea I know it is only 12:57am, but for a girl who normally goes to sleep between 10:00 and 11:00 this is quite late. Especailly I'm not even doing anything good. I'm just not sleeping.

I went to a meeting about putting a dog park in our neighborhood and I keep thinking about it. About the plan that is being worked up and why I think it is wrong and what I think could be done better. I need to do some more research before I voice my opinion, but I'm an opinion voicer. I was never one of those girls who kept quite in class and I'm certainly not one to keep quiet at work. So I doubt if I'll keep quiet about this. But I am going to have all my facts straight before opening my mouth. Several people at the meeting tonight did not do that and they just looked foolish.

Okay, I'm going to try the sleeping thing again.

Such sad news

You just don't think that is really happens anymore. But the Kim family lost their way on the way back from Thanksgiving. Many days later the wife and children were found but the husband sadly did not survive. He had gone out to look for help. More information about this tradgedy at the link above.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Kim family.
